2014 Charleston - Finals

Unfortunately I didn't have time yesterday to preview the semis, but I was going for Bencic and Petkovic, one of which is now in the final! So here's my preview:

[14] Andrea Petkovic vs. Jana Cepelova
Both Petkovic and Cepelova were not favourites coming into this tournament, especially not Cepelova, considering her rather average performances in tournaments up until now. This is Cepelova's first WTA final, whilst this is Petkovic's second Premier-level final, after losing to Radwanska in Beijing in 2011. Especially for Petkovic, this has been a long time coming, and after losing   multiple WTA finals in 2013, this is a great opportunity for her to finally win a tournament since Strasbourg. Whilst Cepelova did defeat Williams in the second round, Petkovic's road to the final has been much tougher, having to defeat Lisicki, Bouchard and Safarova, who have put up a much more firmer resistance to Petkovic than Vesnina and Hantuchova have for Cepelova. Ultimately, I believe that it will be experience and mental toughness which will decide the winner, and being a former top 10 player, Petkovic has the edge in experience and playing in major finals.

Prediction: Andrea Petkovic
