2014 Miami - Quarterfinals [2]

I'm actually really busy at the moment, so I'll keep the posts over the next few weeks nice and short:

[2] Li Na vs. [11] Caroline Wozniacki
Both Li and Wozniacki have had quite easy draws, especially with Jankovic being knocked out in the second round and Li having a bye and a walkover in succession. This means that both players are quite healthy and I think that Li, as a result, will perform slightly better. I think that the surface at Miami is faster than Indian Wells and this suits Li more as she will be able to put away more of Wozniacki's shorter balls. Also, the match is being played at night, so the court might also be marginally quicker and Li will be able to pound out some great winners. However, their 3-2 head to head in favour of Li suggests that Wozniacki is still able to capitalise on many of Li's unforced errors.

Prediction: Li Na

[3] Agnieszka Radwanska vs. [10] Dominika Cibulkova
With this match-up, one of the most important underlying factors is that with just one more win, Cibulkova will finally become a top 10 player, after winning Acapulco and making the finals of the Australian Open, overtaking Sara Errani, who has been doing dismally this year. (Personally, I think both Errani and Vinci's ranks are quite inflated due to them both playing almost every event on tour.) I think this, along with Radwanska's poor performance against Svitolina (7-6, 5-7, 6-2) and a potentially bust knee which might come under stress against Cibulkova, who will make her run. Not only this, but Cibulkova played quite a good match against Venus Williams (6-1, 5-7, 6-3) and that should also give her much confidence going into the next match.

Prediction: Dominika Cibulkova
